Great post Christy (I found your blog through Twitter!), and I agree about changing the term to harassment as some parents seem to think bullying is somehow okay, that it's some sort of rite of passage. When we don't have parents and adults in our society understanding the depth of this issue, it will be hard to move forward. Much education is needed, so just wanted to say thank you for doing your part in that!
Thanks Janice. It's such a complex topic, and I find it frightening that the horrible online comments about Amanda Todd continue.
i was bullied for years in school, teachers usually saw it and did nothing. sometimes the teachers even were the bullies. you were a good teacher. thanks for always being there for me and being a positive memory for me.
I'm so sorry that teachers ignored bullying that was directed at you. I too was bullied, in grade 7, and it was one of the worst years of my life, having friends pull away and adults ignore it, as if I deserved it. I'm glad to hear that you have positive memories and that I may have had a part in that. As teachers we often don't see the impact of what we do with children and we cross our fingers that down the road it has positive results. Thank you for letting me know that what we do matters.
